Thomas Speno Jr., president of Margate-based Preferred Realty & Development, said he’ll break ground on the project in the first quarter of 2017 and won’t need a construction loan. Preferred Storage Plantation owns the 2.66-acre site at 1021 W. Sunrise Blvd., which it acquired for $1.2 million in April.

The three-story complex was designed by architect Kenneth Carlson in Deerfield Beach.

This continues a boom of self-storage construction in South Florida as developers meet demand from the growing population.
